Utah Northern Railroad

The railroad has passed through Honeyville for over a century, causing me to do lot of research on the Utah Northern Railroad, as I believe much of Honeyville's history is wrapped up in having a train pass through town in 1872.

This is an 1878 Baldwin engine (2-6-0 for RR geeks) that would have passed through Honeyville as engine #13 on what had become the Utah & Northern Railway.  The photo was taken in 1880, but people, location, and occasion are all unknown to me.

In the summer of 2017 I was able to visit the California State Railroad Museum. It is a great way to spend some time if you are ever in the Sacramento area.  While there I took a photo of my son in front of engine #13, which over many transactions, had ended its service as Engine #1 for Nevada Short Line.  It is only one of three or four engines that still exist from the UNRR.

I would love to have seen this engine in its day.  A note, all the engines on the UNRR were coal burning, no wood.  The old cinders still lie beneath the rail beds.

I picked up a lot of great information from the Colorado Rail Annual No. 15 (published by the Colorado Railroad Museum in 1981).
